CASE STUDY: FDCF WEBSITE
OVERVIEW
What's the Problem?
Through initial redlining of the Florida Department of Children and Families site, we identified some of the current usability issues in the website. There were problems of a lack of breadcrumbs, cluttered and overwhelming content chunking, unclear syntax and headlining, as well as an overall outdated look of the website. We met up with our stakeholders and gained some helpful insight. They emphasized a need for a better content structure and a more clear and organized navigation.

My Role
Team Members: Megha, Terica, Amie

Background: Our UX/UI Design Bootcamp was tasked with re-designing a website in our area and developing it with front end technology using HTML and CSS. Having chosen the Florida Department of Children and Families website, we conducted multiple interviews and gathered data from surveys regarding user experience with the Child Services section of the website.

So what's the solution?
Through user research, testing, and iterations, we designed a new website for the Florida Department of Children and Families website that provides the user with a streamlined way to find resources use the provider search feature. We provided a new navigation system that is more intuitive and user friendly as well as a more modern and welcoming design.
USER RESEARCH
User Research Data
In order to better understand what our users want and what they struggle with, we conducted 5 user interviews for qualitative data and a survey of 12 questions where we received 16 responses for quantitative data.

AFFINITY DIAGRAM
After gathering the results from the survey and interview, we constructed an affinity diagram. This helped us categorize what was most important to
our users.

We conducted four basic tasks on the low-fi prototype and hi-fi prototype:
-
Find out how to File a Child Care Provider Complaint
-
Find the Quality Checklist: Evaluating Early Learning Programs Card
-
Use the Provider Search Feature and Utilize the Results Filter
-
Find the Choosing a Childcare Provider page and Answer Question

FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
In our second phase of development
we’d like to:
1. Add a live chat to the site

2. Add video tours of childcare facilities
3. Re-design the pages under “For Child Care Providers”
